Please read the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) report from 7th June 2023 about the crisis for UK onshore wind, first banned by deranged David Cameron in 2015. ‘It would take 4700 years for England to reach the…capacity called for by Government advisers’ at the current installation rate.
This is the conservative government wrecking the nascent green energy industry, especially in the Midlands where very few wind turbines exist. Scotland got in before 2015 and installed sufficient for their population. Only 6.6MW of UK onshore wind turbines have been installed since 2015 and 2MW of those are at Keele University which somehow managed to push it through our crazy planning rules. This is the most economic method for producing green electricity at £0.03 per unit kWh, 5 times cheaper than the Grid which is a monopolistic monster.
Solar has similar problems because UK is a backward country when it comes to green hydrogen and other clean products and jobs. We have to revolt against these NIMBY ideas. Yet our government supports nuclear electricity which costs three times more than onshore wind while creating a long-term waste hazard.
