The word is getting around that UK support for hydrogen is bureaucratic and thin. The CEO of Johnson Matthey, the leading fuel cell materials producer, has suggested that British leadership has now been lost in the hydrogen fuel cell field and the baton has passed to USA. In 2019 about £100M was proposed by the British government, but this sum looks paltry when compared with the $369 billion inflation reduction act announced by Joe Biden recently. The British support has since increased to about £400M but even so, diffusion of investors to US from UK looks likely. Urgent action is needed to focus resources on hydrogen now.
