Tuesday, 4th June at 9pm, Starmer and Sunak debated the upcoming election issues on ITV channel. Climate change was one serious topic raised by the chairwoman plus the two parties' plans for moving to net zero. Sunak said “of course” the UK would address climate change and move toward net zero, but he was against making life more expensive for taxpayers. He did not mention that renewable energy is now beating the Grid price by a factor 5, so renewables will make life cheaper for citizens. He insisted that energy security and household bills were most important, while neglecting to say that Starmer's approach would deliver both these benefits. In his comments, Starmer mentioned hydrogen saying “There is a transition coming when it comes to energy; a transition to renewables. We shouldn’t just see that as a challenge, it is a huge opportunity because renewable energy is cheaper, not just in the short term but in the long term. It gives us energy security so it means that Putin can’t put his boot on our throats, but it also gives us the next generation of jobs. Other countries have realised that renewables are the future. I want us to be in that race, I want us to win that race, and when it comes to hydrogen, offshore wind, solar, nuclear, the question I ask is, why not Britain?” This was a reminder of Starmer's recent speech “Some nation will be the first to harness new hydrogen power. Why not Britain?”. This was a winner in my opinion. Sunak is a money moron who has got hydrogen completely wrong. Just like he got battery electric cars wrong, trying to delay progress. He has failed to tell us that UK is now a factor 20 behind the small but shining country NORWAY, in delivering green vehicles.
