Reform UK is against net zero (the UK promise to remove greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere by 2050). Reform differs from all other parties by claiming that “scrapping net zero and related subsidies” would save £30bn per year. Obviously hydrogen is not a thing that Reform recommends.
The UK government spends about £8bn per year on investment in emissions reduction, according to the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR). This could rise to around £50bn per year in the coming decade.
However, there will be be savings to households from renewable energy, rather than more spending on faulty fossil fuels. Most economists think that no hydrogen will mean lots of expensive new energy bills.
