Last week's budget included an unprecedented rise in funding for DESNZ working on green hydrogen production. Although this project goes back to Boris when he instigated £1bn for DESNZ to create 10GW of UK green hydrogen by 2030, the new budget has confirmed that DESNZ was the leading department for spending increase to 2025-2026. The funding will rise from £6.4bn in 2023-4 to £9bn in 2024-5 then to £10.3bn in 2025-6 rising annually by 22%. This includes the bizarre Carbon Capture and Storage projects which appear to give lots of cash to BP and other very rich companies that are dragging their feet on green energy.
